Alexander Gronsky is a landscape photographer originally from Tallin, Estonia and is living in Riga, Latvia. The book that I looked at this week was made by LightWork and features Gronsky’s work Pastoral. All the photos are taken around the outskirts of Moscow. In all of these photos people are out and enjoying nature but there is a constant reminder of the city looming in the background. All of Gronsky’s photos are shot in color. The landscapes are primarily green, blue, gray and tan. The pops of color are added by the people scattered throughout the landscape. Even though the photos are in color, they are muted and dull. It is showing the pollution of the city pouring out into nature even though it should be an escape.
